Crazy Hair Day!

Today was a day that I woke up so happy...for once I did not have to worry about the random chickadee on Hagen's hair! you see, it doesn't matter how nice his hair looks when he goes to bed, no matter how dry it is since I dry it after his bath every night, he always wakes up and has hair that looks like he has been break dancing in his bed! it is NUTS! It is not all over, but I think it is worse to have just a few chunks OUT.OF.CONTROL! Getting those suckers to lay down is a morning beating that I take every morning.

So, I was so excited this morning to just wake him up, throw gel in his hair, and make it ALL stick up...It's CRAZY HAIR Day at school!! Woo Hoo!

We walk into school...no one up front has crazy hair...walk down the hall...still normal hair...walk into his class...class as usual with no crazy hair. My poor Hagen was the only one that got the memo. So he is in class looking like the guy from the slim jim commercials "step into a slim jim"! With his hair all spiked up.

Sorry Hagen...I'm sure I just opened up a can for you to get your butt kicked on the playground. Mama will make it up to you with something...Ice cream perhaps?

OK, so on other news...Hagen pooped on the potty! He kept saying he had to pee, so I would go back over and over and perch his hiney on the pot. I then made him sit there and we sang Old McDonald 3 rounds...and it came out! He watched it...I watched it...So proud of him! Now, I can not believe the size of what came out...man alive...I was blown away!

He picked out some M&M's. Then later he wanted more so he tried again and a chunk came out with some serious force behind it! Ryan and I discussed what was technically a poop. We decided that whatever came out (no matter the size) he would get a treat.

So way to go Hagen! Your new found freedom...Sorry about the hair bud...

Love,
Mama

Petting

I forgot to mention a story...Thanks for the reminder Mom!

Last night as I was petting Hagen's hair before he went to sleep, he reached up and said he wanted to "pet my eye glasses". What?

I soon figured out he wanted to pet my eye brows. So we sat there...in the dark...noise maker blaring...just petting each other's eye brows...aww...

I just spent my lunch hour going to Dollar General (always feel like a winner in there...ugh, hate that place) and bought a bunch of crappy toys to award a big dump! Cars, snakes, lizards, books, etc. Now what to do...do I wrap each one separately or just put them in a basket and he can pick one when he does it? Ladies? A little help here.

XO,
Carrie

Our week

Hagen has become quite the monster lately. He is expressing his Independence or whatever and standing up for himself. When he wants something he tells you, when he doesn't agree he tells you, sometimes he just jibber jabbers for the hell of it. He is definitely a talker...I don't know why I even try to have a conversation on my phone in the car with Hagen is accompanying me...it is a lose lose situation.

He will ask OVER AND OVER AND OVER where we are going, who is going to be there, what's for dinner, where's Daddy, "Daddy AND Pia's Birdday?", "I pp'd in potty", "I scared of tunder", "Daddy's truck is LOUD...I cover my ears", and so on and so on...just a constant diareah of the mouth situation in the Darney mobile.

Well, this is proving to be a problem at Nap Time. You see, Hagen started his nap boycott a few months ago, but was always easy to sooth to just sit there, read a book, and hush...at least at home that is how it works. At school they have his nap pad on the opposite side of the room so that he is not disturbing the other kids. Well, yesterday when I picked him up and looked at his daily report it said he had very hard time remaining quiet on his nap...UNDERLINED!! And then, it had a star at the bottom with "Hagen is telling his teachers NO when he is told to lay down and be quiet".

SO, Hagen, Ryan, and I had a big talk about how that is not acceptable and when he is at school he is to do as his teachers say and NOT tell them NO...VERY unhappy with that Hagen. When I took him to school this morning I asked for his teacher to come over and Hagen, Ms. Karen, and I sat down and discussed that it is not right to tell the teacher NO...he looked sad and embarrassed...AND CAUGHT. Ya, I'm on you buddy....nothing getting past this Mama.

So, we'll see how that went when I get the little monster today after school.

Hagen should be done with his swimming next week and I will post a video of it when he is graduated. He has made big strides in the past 2 weeks and is doing really well!

Funny: Hagen was in the car with me yesterday and yelled "I have a burger" with his pointer finger lodged right up his nostril...I swear, he is the champ on how far you can get your finger in your nose...I think I saw it coming out of the corner of his eye! Impressive buddy....

Carrie

Absent

That's what I have been...absent minded, absent from my blog...just absent.

I'm in a funk. No reason why. I do have alot of decisions coming my way that I will dive into later...

Today is my sweet handsome man's 35th birthday! Ryan, you are so good to me. You are what I pictured as the perfect husband and father. Hagen and I adore you more and more everyday. I never thought that I would be able to find someone that was as good of a father as I had, but you have proved me wrong. You are the best! Happy HAPPY birthday honey!

Hagen is doing good with Potty training...just with pee though. He is holding the big one for the bathtub, shower, or his underware. I was shocked when he first started potty training and going #2 on the potty at school...I thought I had won the lottery since I know that is the hardest part of PT'ing. But he has now become afraid of it (which I would be too if you saw the log left in my shower the other night by little man).

he is doing well at swimming lessons and should be done with the intense lessons here in the next week or so. I can not wait as it is costing me a fortune!! BUT, I know it is good for him and is teaching him to survive if he falls into water.

I know this post is boring...just alot on my mind. I just wanted to post something to let you guys know I am alive and everything is fine. :)

Carrie

Weekend Wrap-up

I'm alive! I had a wonderful time while on my girl's weekend. We did alot of reminiscing, catching up on babies and our lives, ALOT OF DRINKING, swimming, hanging out, and just adoring each other. It is so nice to still be in touch with friends from High School no matter how little you keep in touch. I love my girls and had a wonderful time.

To be honest, I was worried about the amount of alcohol that we were going to be drinking...call me a wimp...just my tolerance since having Hagen has gone WAY DOWN! Well, I am happy to say that I was able to keep up and all without a hangover! Go Carrie! Party animal is back!

While I was gone Ryan and Hagen had a fun "Guy's weekend". Ryan of course had a great time and so did Hagen. They went to Gatti's for Pizza, woke up bright and early on Saturday to go to the Aquarium, and went to Home Depot!

When I got home on Sunday at 2:00 Hagen was excited to see me and told me all the animals he saw at the "jungle". He was so excited and I am so happy they had their time alone to hang out...love that Ryan has a little boy to do boy things with.

While I was gone Ryan had Hagen leave me a message on my voicemail "I love you Mama...Nite nite Mama...I miss you Mama"...totally melted my drunk heart!

I am proud to say that after a fun weekend we have officially entered "Potty Training Central". Hagen's teachers have demanded 7 pairs of under ware, 4-5 pairs of shorts, and a few pairs of socks along with extra shoes. It was GO TIME on Monday morning. Hagen went to school in Grover Underpants and came home in the same ones! NO accidents! he had them on until it was bath time...no accidents even after school.

I am so proud of him for deciding that he was ready. He looks so cute with his little hiney perched on the potty. Then he hops off and runs to the stickers that he displays on a piece of paper that is on the fridge.

That's what has been going on in Darney land...sorry to disappear for awhile...I had to recuperate from my weekend!

Carrie

Big Green Tractor

The Darney's have a new favorite song...Not sure if you have heard of it, but if you are a true Texan you will fall in love with it too. Especially when your little boy is trying to sing the words and is doing a fine job at it.

Here are the lyrics to the main verse:

I can take you for a ride on my big green tractor
we can go slow or make it go faster
Down through the woods and out to the pasture
'long as I'm with you it really don't matter.

Climb up in my lap and drive if you want to
Girl, you know you got me to hold on to
We can go to town, but baby if you'd rather
I'll take you for a ride on my big green tractor!

Hagen would hold onto my iPhone and play it over and over again. He is not allowed to hold my phone anymore because banana on your hands is supposedly bad for an iPhone...it is like cement when it dries!

Did I really lick my iPhone screen to get the dried banana off faster? No? Oh, OK, cuz I thought I remembered doing that...

Peace out,
Carrie

Mama's getting her grove on!

What a busy week! Hagen has been doing well in "drowning lessons"...but he is actually starting to look like he IS drowning...going backwards in his training. That's OK, he will get it when he gets it! It's not like he is going to be competing like Michael Phelps next year...but by 2011 he better be ON IT! Enough of this! Sink or swim, for real!

To be honest he has NO fat on his body whatsoever (just like Mama) and is having a hard time with the floating. Poor baby. Plus the pool water is FREEZING!! So that does not help. Hagen shivers in the shade in Dallas...IN AUGUST!

I am about 1 hour from departure to my long awaited Girls Weekend! It is with about 10 girls from PSHS Class of '93 heading down to Lake Travis for some CRAZY times! We all get our drink on like college kids and have so much fun together! This is my second time away from Hagen since he was born May 31, 2007. What a dork I am!

I told him that he is going to have Guy's Weekend with Dapper and Daddy and Mama was going to go be with friends. I said my goodnight last night and went to snuggle with him 2 more times before I went to bed.

There have only been a handful of times that I have not gotten Hagen up for school. Ryan typically leaves early so that he can come home early (which I love). So this morning when I left the house at 6:30 AM (no reason people should be driving that early...none at all) I was sad.

I got in my car BY MY SELF...went to Sonic BY MY SELF...talked TO MY SELF...and missed my sweet baby. I thought about him when I passed the million cement mixers, diggers, delivery trucks, trash trucks, and dump trucks. That's our thing...we talk about what we want to look for and I tell Hagen to open his eyes really wide and look (which he proceeds to close them as tightly as he can). We hunt trucks before school!

Ryan said when he woke Hagen up for school he said, "Mama's with her friends and Daddy is taking me to school." No problem...not that I was expecting a meltdown, but I'm just sad.

I need to relax and have fun, but I am already sad and miss Hagen. I usually slap people when they say things like I just said because I mean, come on...get a frickin grip and have a good time Debbie Downer. But now that's me...Wha Wha...

The car is packed, Sonic is calling my name, and the drivers better beware...Mama is heading out on a road trip!

See ya bitches!
Carrie

P.S. Hagen loves when Ryan fills up the huge Dickey's cup in the tub with water, holds it up high over Hagen, and slowly pours the water out on him. Last night he told Daddy to pour it on his "tail"...yes, he calls it his tail. Where the hell did he get that from?

P.S.S. We have been teaching Hagen WHO a boy is and WHO a girl is (no Penis or China talk yet...thanks Coco...I LOVE the china word so much better). So we ask what Mama is, and he says girl...Papa - boy...Daddy - MAN...wait, what?! Ryan doesn't know why he is saying that...but he only calls Daddy a man. Hmmm...wonder who taught him that. Cute Ryan, very cute.

I've been tagged!

I was tagged by http://merrymack.com/ today...it's my first "tag"! I'm kinda excited...

I recently spent alot of time doing my random 25 on Facebook, so I am going to use them...since I did spend time on it:

1. I absolutely love the dollar bin at Target! They have great books, not to mention Hagen’s love of books is not costing me a fortune!!!

2. If I could shop for all of my clothes and shoes, etc. at Nordstrom’s I would be in heaven…I love Nordstrom’s!!

3. I have an out of control sweet tooth. I actually hide all of the sweets I eat from people around me because it is embarrassing!!! When I was pregnant, I got caught…I was only eating mint chocolate chip ice cream…I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes.bye bye mint chip…hello diet! Argh!

4. I cannot stand dog hair in my house…funny because I have a 90 pound black lab, Dapper. I love Dapper, but want to dip him in some solution to make his hair not grow back!!!

5. I really enjoy driving…I can cruise anytime, anywhere…I use to drive at lunch when I first started working by myself…just go up and down the tollway. Love a good road trip!!

6. I feel naked without a T shirt or a tank under my shirts…

7. Back in the day of the “banana clip” I actually tried to spice it up a bit. Instead of having it go from the nape of your neck to the top of your head, I put it from ear to ear. What a dork…and my mom let me go to school like that?!

8. I despise talking on the phone! Funny because I am a recruiter…but after work, I do not want to talk on the phone at all! Just ask some of my wonderful friends…they GET that about me and don’t give me a hard time about it!

9. Sonic Ice Tea…my love…

10. I am a picker! If I have a scrape or something it will never heal because I will mess with it!!

11. Clorox wipes…ahhh…love those things…

12. I feel sorry for Britney Spears. I truly hope that she is on the path to a new and better beginning for herself and her cute babies.

13. I love Q-tips and don’t feel clean after a shower until I use one!!

14. When I first got out of college, I won $10,000 on KISS FM radio.

15. Between my Junior and senior year at Tech, I studied in Valencia, Spain…really just drank my way through Italy, Spain, and France…

16. When I was growing up, my mom would stock pile girl scout cookies in our deep freezer. Every so often she would surprise us and get some out and it was great! Well, I wanted thin mints in a bad way and mom was not having it. So, I got a box out of the freezer, put them in a gallon zip-loc bag, went to my closet and hung them on a skirt hanger with a shirt over it. It was genius! I ate 2 and forgot about them until we were getting me ready to go to college. We found the cookies…Errr…hockey pucks. I hid them so good I forgot about them!

17. I was really worried about not being able to have a baby for my husband that is adopted…I wanted him to know someone that is blood relation. Now, we have Hagen and not only is he blood relation, he is really starting to look like Ryan also…has his smile for sure.

18. I love me some potty humor! Hagen farted in the bathtub the other night and I almost wet my pants…then had to open the door to air it out…he is so much like his Daddy…

19. I am starting to HATE the words tractor and fireworks…that is all Hagen talks about…cute, but enough already…

20. I love my job! No really, I do! I have a job that lets me do what I love (help people find a job that they like), but can also have a good part of my day with Hagen because it is part-time. It is a nice balance and I am very thankful…

21. My Dad is my hero – he is the funniest, smartest, most likeable person I know…he is the best!

22. When I was in High School, I wanted to be Cindy Mancinni in Can’t Buy Me Love…Merrilee and I can still quote every line in that movie.

23. I went to jail for Public Intoxication my freshman year in college after drinking on an empty stomach…the cops arrested me, got on the loud speaker on the car and said “stay away from the car…she is going to jail”. My brother bailed me out “without telling my parents” which I later found out he BORROWED the money from my parents to bail me out…punk… I spent the night in a cell with 3 other BAD girls…I slept on the floor of the cell…next to the toilet…poor me.

24. I rock at Math, but suck at history & hate reading (except people magazine…with the crossword).

25. I was a cheerleader…not for my skills, but because I was nice to people. I was not good AT ALL!!! Cheered for 4 years and then didn’t make it my senior year…saddest time of my life.

26. I LOVE Crossword puzzles! I can do them all day…well, not the super hard ones…the easier ones.

I am going to tag three ladies that I went to high school with. and I am fully aware that I do not know how to make it so that their names just show up...I have to paste their website...anyone wanna teach me?

Swimming at Papa and Pia's!

First of all, my Mom was going to be called Grandma, but Hagen had a different idea for her name. He has lovingly called her Pia for awhile now and we didn't know that was his name for her! We weren't so sure about it at first, but now we have all grown to love it...even Pia!

We went over to swim and cook out steaks. We had a great time getting some sun, watching Noah and his AWESOME floating from lessons, Hagen showing off putting his face underwater, and then ice cream sundaes!!

Now, it started off as Grandpa getting the boys some ice cream (he has a nickname of Papa Icecream because he loves ice cream and sharing with the boys). Then we all wanted some too but we wanted carmel, hot fudge, magic shell, M&M's, the works! So off he went to the store to get the toppings.

The reason I am telling this much detail into our sundae's is to tell a childhood memory of mine.

My Dad will do ANYTHING for his kids, his wife, and his grandkids. He is the most patient person you will know and so giving. When my brothers and I were growing up and it was "fast food night" my dad would make special trips to get whatever we wanted. That mostly included Wendy's, McDonalds, and Jack in the box. He would ask what we wanted and go to each one without a complaint...hamburger from Wendy's and fries from McDonalds was a great combo!

Thanks Dad for always striving to make us happy...I for one always have been.

Love,
Carrie

P.S. Dapper is still not feeling well...his belly is not good. He pawed and wimpered at Ryan this mroning at 6:00 to go out...did some SERIOUS business and then came in to go back to bed. Poor Dapper Dog...

Cade's Firestation Birthday

We had a fun morning going to Cade Plunkett's 4th birthday party at the Fire Station! Hagen had a great time sitting in the fire truck, checking out the Care Flight helicopter, doing the "Stop...Drop...and Roll", eating cupcakes, and watching a fireman put on all of his gear.

Before we left to go to the party I told Hagen that I wanted to get a picture of him riding in the fire truck and a picture of him with a fireman to put in his room. He said he wanted a picture of Daddy riding a fireman too! Ha! So does Mama!

He was so excited, sang Happy Birthday to you Cade, and did a wonderful display of the stop, drop, and roll technique...Mama was so proud.

While we were checking out the helicopter, Mama gave the firemen a show. Yep, she was wearing a flowy dress and the wind picked it up and so Mama flashed her pretty nude color granny panties for all the men...poor guys obviously don't get any if they thought that was nice.

Hagen is napping and Ryan is at the gym and I am doing laundry. We are resting up to go swimming at Papa and Pia's house and cook out. Have a wonderful Saturday all!

Love,
Carrie

P.S. Is there anything that smells worse than a 90 pound Black Lab with a belly ache? I swear when we came home from the party it smelled like a crap factory in our house!

Poop

Let's talk poop...yes, I know I am on a stinky streak lately. I can't help it!

Now, I have talked before about how Hagen is kinda a follower. He is succumbing to peer pressure but this time I am cheering it on!

Hagen has been peeing on the potty at school for a couple of weeks now. Just once or twice a day. BUT this week he did once on Monday, twice on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then yesterday he peed 5 times AND pooped on the potty and only had one wet diaper! GO HAGEN!

The thing is that it was not an accident either. He was outside playing on the playground and went up to one of his teachers and said he needed to go poop. So, she took him in, perched his little hiney on the potty and he let it go! Just that easy!

NOW, I don't understand why he won't do it at home? Do I need to invest in some tiny toilets? I have already put the accessory that makes the hole smaller on and the step stool. I'm afraid his 22 pound (yes, my 26 month old little boy weighs an even 22 pounds) arse is going to fall right in.

We were doing stickers...one for each pee pee. I think now we are going to do a max of 2 stickers and then when he poops at school he can get some M&M's...he loves them! He has a sheet of paper on the fridge where he displays his sticker collection...

What other ideas do you Mama's have for potty rewards?

Love,
Mama

Ooooo That Smell! (Part II)

As if the previous post of a rotting onion in my car didn't make you want to heave, I forgot deodorant today. yes, I was too worried about waking up my sleeping angel so that he can watch some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse before his day of learning and just plain forgot...where was that extra standby that I use to keep in my car? Maybe the decomposing onion ate it.

How is it that you can take a shower and only a few hours later smell like a drunk Ho-Bo on a very early Sunday morning? I smell like a man...a dirty "been doing yard work" man. AND I just had to go into the conference room to get a lunch order from a client. I'm sure he was checking to see if I had hair on my chin or underarms by the way I reeked.

Smell ya later,
Carrie

Ooooo That Smell! Can't you smell that smell!

OK, so now that you have that lovely song in your head, I have a great story for you.

My car has smelled like a raw sewage dump/hangover breath/mound of dog feces/whatever for the past 2-3 weeks now. Hagen is messy with his snacks in the car and so I often have many stale crackers on the floorboard (which if I don't watch him closely he will grab and eat). I try to vacuum it once a week or so but lately just have been too busy (LAZY) to do so.

Well, this smell is beginning to take over. I cleaned out the car and have been through almost a whole bottle of Febreeze...nothing. So this morning, I was getting ready to put Hagen in his seat for school and the smell almost knocked me over!

Hagen wanted to "drive" so I put him in the drivers seat and he was playing. I had all the windows rolled down and began my MILLIONTH search of the car...freaking out every inch worried about what I was going to find.

Then...I saw it...it was white and round...like a fully wet diaper. It was between the 3rd row seating and the 2nd row seating (My 3rd row is never up...always down). But what could it be? WAS it a diaper that got away? I had to grab it and maneuver it to get it out. It was...are you ready...AN ONION! GROSS! Man, it had been there in my hot car for about 3 weeks...just rotting away! Now, it was smelly, but I think it could have been way worse. It wasn't drippy or anything...just a bit soft.

So I put it in the fridge hoping that it would come back to life. I do need an onion for dinner tonight...now I don't have to go to the store! I kid...

Love,
Carrie

P.S. My demented husband had a dream the other night about Hagen. Hagen was in the front yard molding Dappers poop into a...wait for it...you can't stand it can you...a TURDrantula! You know, like a tarantula but with the word turd.

Hagen, welcome to Manhood...

Let me give you some background...

When Hagen was little...like REALLY little...4 months old or something like that he loved the country music video of Sugarland singing "Why don't you stay". It was a sad song of a lady singing to her wandering husband. The video is boring...just her singing and crying. He would be throwing a fit or crying about something and we would put that video on (we had it on DVR) and he would immediately stop crying.

Our nighttime ritual consists of me giving Hagen a bath, Hagen cuddling with Ryan on the couch while drying off in his towel, then I put his PJ's on and brush teeth, and Ryan reads and tells stories.

Well, tonight Hagen was cuddling in his towel while lounging on Ryan and watching the country music station. And low and behold, Sugarland was playing at a concert! They weren't even singing that song, but it was like Hagen just remembered her and was right back to the place of comfort...maybe too much comfort.

I was sitting on the other couch and Ryan looked over at me and said, "can you check and see where his hand is?" So I peeked under his towel and WHOA! Hagen found his...well...you know. He REALLY found it and was just staring at her on the TV!

So, I scooped him up and said it's time to put our PJ's on and wait for Daddy for books!

Ryan and I could not stop laughing. It's so funny! He loves her! Not Jessica Simpson, not Angelina Jolie, but the girl from Sugarland!

Welcome to manhood Hagen.

Love,
Mama
