Hagen

There are so many things about Hagen that make me love him more and more everyday. I need to remember these things that make me smile as he is testing my patience with him also...because, well...he's 2!
1. I love when we ask if he wants to do something and he responds "Maybe later" or "Maybe next time". This is nice to hear instead of "NO" that is usually yelled.

2. When I go to the bathroom I am always encouraged by a good ole "Good Girl Mama!" It's nice to be encouraged every once in awhile!

3. no matter the size of what he does with #2 he always says, "That's a BIG one!" So proud...even if it is the size of a skittle!

4. Yesterday was Dapper Dog's 7th birthday...birthdays' = cupcakes! We sang to Dapper and when Hagen sings the song it is like nails on a chalkboard. "Happy Birthday to Dapper, Happy Birthday to Dapper, Happy BIIIIIIIIIRTHDAY to Dapper, Happy Birthday to Dapper." Now, the part that I put alot of IIII's in is the hard part...it is really loud, high pitched and screechy! Cute, but wow...

5. I love how he has started putting random things in his pants pocket. Today it was Ramen noodles...what will tomorrow hold? I'm scared of the future pocket picking...

6. He takes great pride in his under ware pickings. Nemo? Oscar? Elmo? who knows! Today Nemo won...

7. It takes him FOREVER to pick out a special treat for going #2 on the potty...honestly...I set the timer. He only pics skittles or smarties, but geez! He has to look like he has never seen it before...

8. He loves him some construction vehicles: Diggers, delivery trucks, trash trucks, dump trucks... Well this morning we saw one we haven't seen any of! A Crane! The clouds lifted, the sun shined on it like no other, it was a beautiful morning...we saw it once going to Sonic and then AGAIN on the way to school...2 crane's in one morning...priceless...

9. I love being greeted in the morning when I open his door with him saying, "I slept good"! We always say good morning, how did you sleep? So now before we have a chance to ask he just tells us!

10. Black Eyed Peas song...Boom Boom Pow. Hagen's new favorite song...he says "Boom Boom Pow, this chicken jacked my style"...aww, so proud...

11. Hagen LOVES sitting in the drivers seat of Ryans truck. The other morning Ryan got in to go to work and the radio was on some random Hispanic station, turned all the way up, his blinker was on, brights on, windshield wipers on, and there was a goldfish in his seat. The funniest part was that we hung golf balls to let us know when we stop in the garage to have as much room in the front of our cars...the windshield wipers were flinging that ball all over the place! Nice wake up call!

12. Hagen loves to watch the trash trucks. Most of the time it is timed perfectly when we get home and they arrive! I pop open the hatch back and we sit in it and watch. Hagen always informs me that if I am scared to plug my ears and I won't be scared. Smart boy...

13. He loves to dust and vacuum...he actually did a good job dusting with me yesterday!!

14. He has to sleep with a bear and blanket every night. We haven't actually tried to not let him have it...wonder what he would think? My Mom knits BEAUTIFUL blankets for babies. I always wanted to MAKE my babies like them...I didn't have to make Hagen like them, he just naturally liked them over the other kind. AND she made him bears to match...so Bear and Blanket go to bed with Hagen.

15. I love hearing him sing his ABC's...especially the "LMNOP" part...hilarious!

16. "No Nose!" when i come at him with the booger sucker.

Basically I have nothing for a blog post...just was thinking of random Hagen things...hope you enjoyed!

Love,
Carrie

Family Photo in Destin

WOW! Check me out...I did it! The first picture is of my two loves...they are at the aquarium in Florida watching the Alligators...Hagen's new favorite...a stuffed one went to show and tell today to school!
Here is my little dude walking on the beach...how cute is he?! I mean, I am biased...but honestly!

He loved running in the sand...chasing the birds (DAMN BIRDS).

Here is a ritual that we had most nights. We went out to dinner every night except for one and when we returned to the house we would get Hagen a popcycle to eat on the beach...

Our family photo...

Moments that stick

OK, so yesterday I had to take my Honda Pilot in to the shop...BRAKES WERE SHOT! Metal on metal! So $620 later, I was off with new breaks and clean steering fluid (well, I guess they are all fixed...how the hell do I really know).

I had to stop for gas. I pulled up and there were some shady people, but I had to get some as I was on "E". Another car pulled up on the other side of my pump...man got out of car. He came up to my door and said, "Mam, I have $1 and my credit card is sitting on my desk at work...can you spare a couple of bucks?".

I fumbled in my purse and pulled out a $5 and handed it to him and said, "here just keep it..." (a lesson that my dad has taught me...good things come back to good people).

He was appreciative and was on his way.

Then I was finishing up and saw a BMW pull up with I swear a kid that was no older than 10 driving. A lady (I guess his mom) got out of the passenger's seat, walked into the store, came out with a 12 pack of beer, and they drove off...swerving might I add.

WEIRD!! So, now I don't ever want to go to the east side anymore, I don't want to pump my gas, and I just want to suck my thumb.

Don't you hate moments that you would do COMPLETELY different if you had a minute to think? I mean if I had to do it all over I would have gone to the other gas station, told the bum to suck it, and thumped the "Mom" on the head!

I could NOT get the scenario out of my head last night...it freaked me out! Ryan thought I was being a weirdo...I was.

Casey, I know you are going to LOVE this part. Hagen has been pooping Rainbow Bright for days now. I'm not kidding...it was aqua the other night! Ryan and I finally figured out why...

He gets a special treat for ANYTHING that consists of #2...Skittles being his favorite...get where I'm going? On Sunday alone he had 6 special treats! Poor baby had a tummy issue and had no accidents, but went ALOT and was rewarded for it.

he also ate some green and blue play dough...that could have also produced some of the whacked out color.

Love,
Carrie

I'm BACK!!

Yes, I am alive. Sorry to leave suddenly without warning. I had to leave...FOR MY VACATION IN DESTIN, FL! Woo Hoo! Man alive, I have been needing to get away for awhile now. Alot of stress going on in the Darney Casa. Nothing terrible, just normal everyday stress stuff.

We go to Destin, FL the first week in September every year. We will continue to do so until Hagen starts school. We LOVE Destin!

I remember the first time I saw the sugary white sand. I was about 12 and we were on our way to Disney. Mom and Dad thought we would stop and see the beach on the way! We fell in love, went to Disney, and left a few days early to go spend some time at the beach! It was all over from there.

I had my first Kiss at the beach...very romantic...in the stairwell of the condo. I don't remember the details, but it was just awkward.

I remember my brother always trying to hit up the suntan lotion sales girls by buying the deepest darkest OILIEST oil they had and burning the crap out of his leathery skin.

I remember my parents encouraging us to order WHATEVER we wanted while going out to eat. There was a "snack shack" at the pool too where we loved their virgin daqaries. We were limited to 2 of those a day because the bill was getting CRAZY! But unlimited frozen snicker bars were the best!

I remember going grocery shopping for the week and getting to buy lots of fun snacky food because hey, we were on vacation.

I remember going to play putt putt golf after dinner and my older brother acting like a complete a-hole when he didn't win (which for the record, he kinda blew at mini golf).

It was always just pure bliss in Destin...

We still go...but now it is different. STILL a great time, just different. I'm not looking for a boy to kiss in the stairwell, I sleep by my husband in our bed and right next to us in a pack n play is Hagen (who is SO excited to wake up and sit up to see us in the AM). One morning he woke up at 6:15. I told him it was still night night time and he said OK and laid his baby head back down and went back to sleep. What a sweet boy!!

Ryan and I were struggling with one part of our trip. Our nephew Noah is 1 year younger than Hagen. So we had a 25 month old and a 16 month old. there is a big difference in age when they are this young...not so much in a few years from now.

We would tell Hagen not to do something, but then Noah was allowed to do so. Hagen would be playing with something and Noah would take it from him and not get in trouble. It was kinda sad to see him get his feelings hurt and be confused why he wasn't allowed and Noah was. No biggie...just a few outings to get him away and be a big boy. NOW, with all that said, Noah and Hagen LOVE each other and play pretty good together. It is so neat to watch them growing up and I'm sure there are going to be some great times in the years to come. PLUS, Noah will be a big brother next spring. Yep, baby brother is expecting! So happy for them!

I need to get to work now...busy busy BUSY! But, busy is good in this economy and I am thankful.

XO,
Carrie

P.S. Hagen on his potty training...he is doing FABULOUS! only 2 accidents in Destin...and they were little. Then, yesterday his tummy was upset and he had to go #2 ALOT...would you believe that he had no messes in his under ware?!? I'm so proud of him! Now, he was on a sugar high yesterday because he gets a special treat (M&M's, Skittles, chewy sweet tarts, Starburst, or smarties) if he goes big potty...he had 6 yesterday!

Converse High Tops

I have always wanted 2 boys since I can remember...

When Ryan and I started trying to conceive, we had problems...unexplained infertility. Basically that meant that there was nothing wrong with anything...FRUSTRATING! I almost just wished they would find SOMETHING that they could fix. It was difficult to go month to month (every 28 days EXACTLY) and know that we weren't pregnant. I longed to have a baby...I wanted to experience being pregnant, breastfeeding, labor, kicks in my belly, all that stuff.

When I got pregnant, I was elated! I had a rough go at it the first trimester as my body did not realize I was pregnant and was continuing to produce "cysts" and bursting. It was painful, I was bleeding the whole first trimester, ended up in the emergency room on Vicodin, Demerol, and some other powerful pain medication. It was rough. Ryan was traveling alot but my Mom was with me whenever I needed her.

I remember one morning I was driving to work and I had the WORST.PAIN.EVER in my belly. I just knew I was having a miscarriage. I drove to Mom's house (Ryan was out of town) and waited for her to wake up. She found me laying on her couch and I told her I think I was miscarrying. She took me to the fertility specialist doctor. I started throwing up...I came out and told my mom "how cruel...I am miscarrynig and having morning sickness all at the same time."

We were crying...they took me back to get a sonogram to make sure everything was OK. I was laying there crying looking at what I thought was my baby that wasn't going to make it. It was EARLY in my pregnancy and we were told we most likely won't be able to see the heartbeat yet. BUT, then the sonographer zoomed in VERY CLOSELY...and said, there it is! I said, yes I know...I see it. He said, do you REALLY see what I am seeing? I was confused. It was that morning that I saw Hagen's heartbeat for the first time...it was just a little faint "sparkle" in this little fetus. I was shocked...all the pain just went away (not really, but it was OK to see that the baby was OK).

My Mom was there for many of the firsts with Hagen...
First seeing the heartbeat...
First hearing the heartbeat...

My mom was even there when he was conceived! ha! Funny huh?! LONG story that is probably not appropriate for the blog...we had an IUI.

When I first found out Hagen was a boy I was thrilled!! To be honest, I would have been happy with a girl as well. I always loved little boys in Chuck's! Converse high tops! I found some online and ordered what I thought was a little tiny pair for babies... I got them in the mail and they were HUGE! Gigantic! Size 5 Navy blue high top Chuck's...for my baby boy!

Well, today I sent Hagen to school in his Tony Romo jersey and his NAVY BLUE CHUCK'S! I just remember seeing those when they first showed up...I was big and pregnant and getting antsy to hold my baby boy...and dreaming about the day he would wear those shoes.

Aww...it's finally here.

Love,
Mama

Enter Michael Phelps!

Hagen is done...Done with swimming lessons! It has been 8 long weeks of going straight to lessons from school, Monday - Friday, 10 minutes long, racing home to get dinner ready!

Mama is so excited that we can now get back on our former schedule of coming home, eating a snack while resting for a few minutes and getting dinner ready! I'm so glad that we did it, but it was getting difficult to have quick and healthy meals ready at the drop of a hat!

Hagen now can flip and float on his back if he were to fall in the pool. The test consisted of him in full clothes and shoes, being dropped in the pool to see if he would get to a floating position on his back and just relax. He was dropped backwards off the side, forwards off the side, while floating on his back he was flipped over (feet over his head) and had to get back to floating. He did it all with ease!

Now, he really likes to float...he floats to the steps and then is supposed to flip back on his tummy and stand on the stairs. Instead he floats straining his eyes looking at the stairs and can not figure out that he needs to just easily flip over on his belly. He panics and cries...but he is floating, therefore breathing.

he has come a long way! We are so proud of our little fish. As soon as I figure it out I will post a video to brag..I mean, show his skills!

Love,
Mama
